My boyfriend has been told of loads of problems with his teeth at the dentist, please read as we need advice?

He needs to have four teeth out which are on the bottom and at the back, they may be able to save one with a root canal, problem with the root canal is that we are moving to Portugal from the UK on Sunday and they can't fit it in here before we go. Shall he have all four out or get a root canal in Portugal? He is 24 and pretty gutted as he has lovely teeth from the front!! How painful are root canals, do they take more than one appointment? Do they ever get infected?

He was also told his gums are reducing and they need cleaning out, apparently it's worse than gingeritus (or however it's spelt) what does this mean and what does he need to do to keep his gums from reducing?

He also needs two fillings which again cannot be fit in at his dentist and needs to be done in Portugal, has anyone had treatment there? My boyfriend has been told of loads of problems with his teeth at the dentist, please read as we need advice?
That treatment is very uncomfortable..Personally,i would leave it for now and have any treatment necessary done in Portugal. Meanwhile,to reduce the risk of receeding gums, brush teeth from the gums gently to the tip of the teeth..This method taught to me by my dental hygeinist has improved my gums................My boyfriend has been told of loads of problems with his teeth at the dentist, please read as we need advice?
I've no idea about Portuguese dentists but I am sure they are a lot cheaper than UK ones. Personally, i would have all 4 out and be done with it. The risk of infection is high with deep filling. If he has receding gums because of infection he should be using a mouth wash recommended by the dentist.
Dental treatment would be BETTER in the UK and not portugal. I have seen patients with work from Portugal and it isn't that great.
