Maybe try closing your eyes and taking a deep breathe and tell yourself to relax as you exhale. When you make a call try to think that you are talking to your closest friend and not a stranger. This might help you to relax. Good luck!HELP!!! Have a telemarketing problem... Advice plzz?
At the beginning its gonna be hard...but after a little bit it will just come to you...
I have been a survey interviewer for over 5 years and I remember dreading having to place cold calls. That lasted for maybe 3 days. Now I don't even think about it. It's not something I like to do, but for some reason I do very well at it and get people to answer interview questions for more than 30 minutes.

Being an interviewer isn't telemarketing, but both of them are about the skill of getting someone to stay on the phone.

The number one thing may sound weird but it's important, don't let yourself care what the people think. They don't want to hear from you, but if it comes to it they can just hang up. Don't be overly sympathetic. I've never telemarketed, but I guess you will run into one or two people a day who really want the product you're selling them, too. To everyone else it's a minor nuisance. Letting yourself dwell on that can ruin your intro.

They may complain that it's before dinner, or during dinner, or after dinner. That amounts to complaining that it's between 5pm and 9pm, which is the only time of day you can reach people at home on a weekday, because they work during the day. If you call them on Sunday they'll complain that it's Sunday, if you call on Saturday they will complain that you're calling on their day off.

There are a million stock excuses that people use, I've heard them all and all they really mean is the person is too polite to instantly hang up. So just read your script; if you lose them, set a callback if you can. Most people will refuse you. You will get used to it very fast.

If you can find any market or political research jobs, they're a bit less stressful because you only have to ask questions not sell stuff.
