Rat Skin Problem - advice please?

My male rat lennon has got greasy fur with a yellow/orange flakey layer on his skin - this is only on his back, his tummy, legs, ears, head etc all seem fine. Although his tail seems to also have this layer on it.

I know male rats have slightly greaser skin anyway, but is this yellow stuff normal?Rat Skin Problem - advice please?
This sounds like Buck grease-

It's an orangy brownish flakey oil that forms on the skin of male rats. Rats are mature at around 5 to 6 months of age. As they mature the Buck's testosterone level rises. The more testosterone in the rat's system the more buck grease will form. It's completely benign, albeit unsightly. So you have nothing to worry about, it's completely natural.Rat Skin Problem - advice please?
i don't think so! I would say he has a skin problem or a case of dandruff. Maybe he is allergic to something in the cage or his cage is not clean enough, which is resulting in the deteriorating health of your rats skin. I would buy some mite and mange spray, give him a warm water bath, comb the layer of flaky stuff out and spray him with the mite and mange as the bottle says. If it still doesn't clear up you might want to consult a vet. Hope this helped :)
Its perfectly normal, sometimes it can build up to a point of feeling uncomfortable, mine hardly got any now...heres the tip....put a drop of olive oil on their backs, it softens it, and gradually reduces the thickness of it, also when they lick the olive oil off it does them good from the inside as well you'll be surprised in a short while how shiny and conditioned, their fur will be, try it can't do any harm. go to ratlist forum, they know loads and loads on subjects like this..............
