What I want to know from any mechanics out there is this: Any ideas as to what the problem could be? If I take it to the garage would they be able to find anything, even though the symptoms are not showing at the moment? Should I cancel the appointment but take it straight over if the problem reoccurs?
Only sensible advice please!Advice on a gearbox problem on an Audi?
its the syncromesh in the box vw's and audi's have suffered from this problem for years dating all the way back to the mk1 gti's, its not a cheap job im afraid its a case of either live with the crunch and hope it doesn't break up or bite the bullet and prepare for a big billAdvice on a gearbox problem on an Audi?
could be your clutch is slipping.it may just need the cable tightning.best to keep appointment to get it checked out properly.my jag's in on friday to have wheel bearings done.oh to have nice cars
Probably the clutch, or hopefully not, the syncromesh in the gearbox.
While I take no pleasure in the misfortune of others, it does rather prove the point that German cars, especially VW / Audis DO break down. Imagine the smug, superior, sarcastic comments you'd have got if you'd been describing the same fault on a Fiat, or, God forbid, a Peugeot (See question further down this page to see EXACTLY what I'm on about!)
Only sensible advice that I can think of is = get a Ford
I'm not a mechanic but i do work on cars last 2 times i seen this problem its usually the gear synchronize rs or leaky slave cylinder let him check it out u dont have to let him fix it if he charges to look at i usually dont trust them guys to much even dealerships have untrained mechanics working for the them and check clutch fluid.
May sound obvious but have you checked your gearbox oil level. I also think you may have a clutch problem despite what you have described.
i used to hav an a4 tdi i had the same problem with 3 rd gear i think audi gearboxs all give problems i ment to get it fixed but never got round to it drove away at it for a year then sold it but better to get it sorted as the time u need the car is the time it will f**k up
i have lots of experience in vw-audi cars and have one my self. this problem is common to 1.8t engine. the problem 99% of the time is the gear synchronizers. to have that fixed is somewhat expensive because the hole gearbox has to be pulled out and dissembled.
i have a tuned 1.8t vw golf with the same problem for about 1 year now, you can leave it as it is and take care of your gear changing or pay to get it repaired.
